Spanish Cross ( Spanien-Kreuz) was instituted on April 14th, 1939, to recognize those German Forces who served in the Spanish Civil War,it was awarded in four classes, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold with Diamonds.

Spanish Cross with Swords in Bronze was given to individuals involved in front line combat during the war.It was worn on the right breast below the pocket flap or below the Blood Order(if awarded).
